This is the smaller form of Guzmania sanguinea. The individual flowers are yollow, three-petaled, and short lived. Prior to flowering an area just outside the center of the plant develops red-orange and yellow irregular bands of color that seem to glow in contrast to the dark green base color. The flowers open over 7-10 days. The leaf color last for several weeks after the last flower fades.
